Rock bottom is a place of utter despair – a spiritual crash and burn. It’s when you look around at your life, examine the wreckage, and decide that the pain is finally so great the choice becomes to change or die. When you look in the mirror and don’t recognize who you have become. When you’ve crossed lines you once considered unthinkable. To anyone watching the news and paying attention, this likely sounds familiar.

Rock bottom is horrible but it is also a gift, an opportunity for change and redemption. America has spiraled into a country we say we don’t recognize, but the addictions that got us to this place – racism, misogyny, homophobia, privilege, power, and greed have always been a part of our story

A recovering alcoholic, Laura Parrott Perry knows a thing or two about rock bottom and the work required to recover. Applying the principles of recovery to the state of our union, Laura walks through the necessary steps for this country to get sober. Because the thing is, as dark as it is right now, this is only rock bottom if we get better. Rock bottom is just where we decide to stop digging.
