Engaging your Community: charging up your activism

July 13, 20191:00 pm1:50 pm
Lisa has been offering community trainings in activism for the past two years. With 50 years of activism experience, with an emphasis on peace and poverty, and a lot of work around interfaith dialogue, Lisa draws on her experience with media, messaging, event organizing, and advocacy to customize trainings for activists and nonprofits. Her trainings also include facilitating conversations around polarizing and controversial issues (of which we have plenty!) This session will begin with asking participants who wish to share their organizations/church, and what challenges they face with their activism work. After about 5 minutes there will be a discussion around messaging, using media to get your message out there, event organizing and advocacy, for about 25-30 minutes (open to audience questions after each topic). Participants will then have a chance, alone or with a group, to work on their own messaging and media plan for about 10-15 minutes, and then for the last 5-10 minutes do some sharing. There will be handouts for each participant on the four topics covered, to help them develop their own messaging, media, event organizing, and advocacy plans.
